It\u2019s important not to let those streaks influence a player\u2019s fantasy baseball value\u00a0<em>too<\/em>\u00a0much, but it is important to be aware of how a player is doing within a short period of time (a seven-day sorter is always a good tool to use). A player\u2019s short-term numbers can be the difference between winning and losing in daily games, and it can also make a huge difference in year-long leagues. For instance, if you can keep finding the second basemen on hot streaks and dropping them for another streaking second basemen once they get cold, you can piece together a very useful middle infielder-by-committee for your roto team. In order to give you some help picking your pitchers for today, I\u2019ve gone through all of the stats that I could (pitchers\u2019 career numbers vs. certain hitters and lineups, home\/road splits, lefty\/righty splits, etc) and have made nine recommendations. I\u2019m not going to proclaim that I\u2019ll get these 100% correct all season, but anyone that does should be sitting on an island that they own in the Pacific \u2013 not writing fantasy baseball articles. The goal here is to play the odds the entire season and slowly build your \u201cwin\u201d percentage closer to 100% than to 50%.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHere are today\u2019s recommendations with,\u00a0<strong>3 Up<\/strong>\u00a0(three pitchers you shouldn\u2019t think of sitting),\u00a0<strong>3 Down<\/strong>\u00a0(three pitchers with some warning flags for today), and\u00a0<strong>Throwing Darts<\/strong>\u00a0(three pitchers that I\u2019ll be taking a flier on):<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3 Up<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kris Medlen\u00a0<\/strong>vs. Kansas City Royals<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doug Fister\u00a0<\/strong>at Seattle Mariners<\/p>\n<p><strong>Derek Holland\u00a0<\/strong>at Chicago Cubs<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3 Down<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ubaldo Jimenez\u00a0<\/strong>vs. Boston Red Sox<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brandon McCarthy\u00a0<\/strong>at New York <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bet365sportsbookonline.com\/baseball\">Yankees<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dillon Gee\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0Colorado Rockies<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Throwing Darts<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A.J. Griffin\u00a0<\/strong>vs. Houston Astros<\/p>\n<p><b>Jake Westbrook\u00a0<\/b>at Pittsburgh Pirates<\/p>\n<p><b>Chris Capuano<\/b>\u00a0vs. San Diego Padres<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Swings and Misses<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A hitter\u2019s career numbers against a pitcher don\u2019t always tell the whole story, but it can be informative if used correctly. I\u2019m of the opinion that\u00a0<em>some<\/em>\u00a0information is better than\u00a0<em>none<\/em>, and while there are other pieces to the puzzle of setting your daily lineup (splits, weather, etc.), I think a hitter\u2019s career numbers against a pitcher can be very indicative of future success or failure. Some guys just own certain pitchers, and vice versa.\u00a0As such, I\u2019ve gone through today\u2019s matchups and picked the best (and worst) matchups I could find.
